Jerrold M. Olefsky, MD
Head of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the UCSD School of Medicine

Professor Olefsky was the 1998 recipient of the American Diabetes Association’s prestigious Banting Medal for scientific achievement, an award given to one person each year in recognition of significant long-term contributions to the understanding of diabetes. He has published over 350 papers and is currently on the Editorial Board of Endocrinology and Diabetes. He was at Stanford University School of Medicine, from 1970 to 1978 and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine from 1979 to 1983, where he was Head of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism. He served as President of Metabolex, on leave from UCSD from August 1998 to September 1999. Dr. Olefsky received his MD from the University of Illinois.
