DIO-901 (very low dose glucagon) VLDG™

DIO-901 is a very low dose glucagon (VLDG™) product that is being developed in an extended release formulation for the reduction of nocturnal hypoglycemia in patients with type 1 diabetes. DIO-901 is currently the only agent in development for this indication, and has received Fast Track status from the FDA. The major target populations include patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who have pancreatic β cell failure and have become insulin dependent.

Insulin intensification therapy has been shown to delay the onset and slow the progression of diabetic retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy in T1DM. Treatment with DIO-901, VLDG™, will be designed to normalize glucagon levels in patients with T1DM and support insulin intensification.

DiObex has over 20 patent applications pending worldwide that claim methods and pharmaceutical formulations of VLDG™ for reducing the risk of insulin-induced hypoglycemia.

DiObex will initiate a PK bridging study with an extended release formulation of VLDG™ in T1DM patients in the first half of 2008.
